A carbon-fibre tripod and monopod were consigned to the checked luggage on this trip but I have packed a tripod in the 7 KG carry-on bag when travelling with a single body and the FE 24-70 and FE 70-200 f/4 zooms. Some airlines will overlook the laptop under your arm and a camera around your neck if you want to push your luck. With the A7 cameras coming in at under half the weight of a Nikon D800 you certainly have more choices with what you can pack with an A7 system.
