Sony’s DMF Focus Mode and Full Time DMF

DMF Focus Mode and Full Time DMF

It is important that Sony’s DMF Focus Mode (Direct Manual Focus) is not confused with Full Time DMF. The DMF focus mode uses AF-S (Single-shot AF) to first acquire focus and then allows the photographer to manually fine-tune the focus by turning the focus ring (with the option of using a magnified view). Full Time DMF (when enabled on the lens or in the menus) allows the photographer to rapidly shift focus while using Continuous AF / AF-C (no need to use the DMF Focus Mode). Rather than fine-tune the focus Full Time DMF is used to quickly shift focus to a distance where the AF and Subject recognition can quickly acquire focus on the subject (avoiding focus hunting or long delays in acquiring focus).
