Your choice of vantage point can help turn something very ordinary into something extraordinary. I have likened the act of ‘framing an image’ to a dance, where we can change the relationship between our subject and the background. In the image above the relationship between the subject and the background has been completely transformed by my vantage point. Before moving into place to capture this image I took an image to show what the subject looked like from a more ‘normal’ vantage point.
Photographers often separate the subject from its background using shallow depth of field – but never forget that vantage point is a huge contributor to a successful, and more interesting, photograph.
One of the creative tasks during my one-on-one training sessions and workshops is how to create professional looking landscapes and seascapes.
