Vantage Point – Part 2 (reach for the sky)

In yesterday’s post I discussed how the choice of vantage point could help turn something very ordinary into something extraordinary. I likened the framing process to a dance, where we can change the relationship between our subject and the background. In the image above the relationship between the subject and the background has been completely transformed by my vantage point. Before moving into place to capture this image I took an image to show what the subject looked like from a more ‘normal’ vantage point.

Photographers often separate the subject from its background using shallow depth of field – but never forget that vantage point is a huge contributor to a successful, and more interesting, photograph.
