Sony are rapidly filling the gaps in its FE (full frame) mirrorless lens lineup.
The new FE 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 G OSS will give many alpha users the reach that they have been asking for. On an A7RII in APS-C mode this lens will give a reach of 450mm but will be light and compact enough for those not wanting to travel with super-heavy wildlife lenses. It is a G lens so it should provide excellent sharpness that will delight both sports and wildlife photographers.
The FE 50mm F1.8 is also a welcome addition. Most manufacturers have an affordable 50mm lens in their lineup – now Sony fills this gap in their own lens lineup. Sony’s premium quality, and ultra sharp, FE55F1.8 Zeiss is a fabulous bit of kit but for alpha photographers looking for a more affordable option, the FE50mm provides the wide-aperture standard focal length lens that all photographers should have in their lens lineup.
