This is an in-depth test to see how four professional cameras perform in the area of dynamic range (the ability of the sensor to record usable detail in the darkest shadows and brightest highlights at a range of ISO settings). The cameras tested are:
- Canon 1D X
- Canon 5Ds
- Nikon 810
- Sony A7RII
The test includes highlight recovery, shadow recovery (due to underexposure or high subject brightness range). It is conducted by Michael Tapes.
Spoiler Alert…Not surprisingly the A7RII proves to be the best overall camera (although the Nikon 810 using a Sony sensor performs well at low ISO and the 18 Megapixel Canon 1D X performs well at high ISO).
